REA Newsletter – Issue 13, Dec 2022

This newsletter issue is a special tribute to the life and work of Richard I. Cook, as part of an initiative within the Resilience Engineering Association to honour Richard and the invaluable role he played in the foundation and progression of the field of Resilience Engineering. The issue includes a collection of memories and research from colleagues and friends of Richard’s. A special thank you to everyone who contributed to creating this tribute issue, and who shared with us and the REA community precious stories and memories.

REA Newsletter – Issue 12, Sep 2022

This issue discusses the role and support that Resilience Engineering can offer to organisations and frontline teams. Guest editor David Provan argues on the key milestones toward resilient organisations, and contributions from other pioneers in the field of RE explore processes to increase adoption of RE in healthcare, means to support frontline workers, and the hallmarks of practising High Reliability Organising.

REA Newsletter – Issue 11, Feb 2022

This newsletter issue sets out to explore the concept of compounding disasters: concurrent events or cascading strenuous incidents that call for prolonged resilience; all of which are becoming increasingly prevalent in our social, business, and political systems. Through a series of short articles, we aim to provoke discussions and debates on the challenges brought about by these compounding events, and foster conversation on the solutions that can stem from a Resilience Engineering perspective, by introspecting on what happened, while anticipating what the future will bring.

REA Newsletter – Issue 10, Nov 2021

Even though we all are still facing Covid-19, the Resilience Engineering Association (REA) continued its legacy bringing a joint initiative Bouncing forward on global crises and challenges based on Resilience Engineering (RE) and Naturalistic Decision Making (NDM) communities. The “15th Conference on Naturalistic Decision Making” and “9th Symposium on Resilience Engineering” ran from June 21 to June 24, 2021, in Toulouse. This event was partially presential and transmitted online for those who could not attend in person for the first time. This event was attended by 372 participants from 31 different countries (Distribution in Figure 1).
